Nathan McCatty of Lapeer and a Davison High School junior spent his summer completing and constructing his Boy Scout Eagle Project. Nathan is a member of Troop #168 of Davison. He has been in Boy Scouts for six years and has always aspired to become an Eagle Scout. Nathan has a passion for the outdoors too. He has participated in Hunter’s Safety, a few fishing competitions, shoots skeet for his high school varsity skeet team, and has been a participant in the Flint Bowman Youth archery and Adult 3D leagues.
The Flint Bowman Club is an indoor/outdoor archery range that runs open shoots, leagues, and provides bow shooting lessons to a variety age groups. Nathan thought this would be a great place to complete his Eagle Scout Project. After meeting with the board members at the club, it was decided that a lean to on the existing pole barn would be a needed and well used space for the club to store equipment, trailers, and other supplies that were being exposed in outdoor unprotected areas.
The project entailed getting drawings, bids, township permits, ordering materials and building the whopping 80’ x 10’ lean to to code. Nathan was very fortunate to have a portion of the funding which totaled $2850.00 from the Flint Safari Club chapter.
“The project has taught me what it takes to be the ‘big man’ behind a project and the experience will help me with future projects,” commented Nathan McCatty.
