2018- 2019 “Standing” Chapter Events

  • 2018 Outfitters Hunting Expo: Our 16th annual Expo which is open to the public and attended by more than 700 persons held one day prior to our Chapter fundraiser to provide additional exposure of SCI to the general public and to provide additional value to our donating outfitters. Members from Quality Deer Management Association were invited to talk with guests. We promoted our SCIF Blue Bag Program, and sold memberships via our membership booth.
  • 2018 Wild Game Dinner and Fundraiser: Our 36th annual fundraiser was the largest in all of SCI, attended by more than 1,200 people. This event generated the majority of our revenue for the year to fund our programs. US Congressman Paul Mitchell was named our National Legislator of the year. State Representative Peter Lucido was named our Michigan State Legislator of the year. Media Person of the year was named – Kyle Randall a outdoor personality and producer of “The Wilderness Journal” outdoor show for the past 22 years. He is also the author of “The End of the Asphalt” magazine series. This year our Membership Director, Dennis Peters conducted a membership drive. 32 new members were signed up during the fundraiser weekend. Members of our local BSA troops conducted the flag ceremony for this event.
  • 2018 General Membership Meeting: General membership meeting for the chapter. A representative of the MDNR gave a presentation about CWD. Pat O’Kopny with Pheasants Forever spoke about SCI Flint involvement in restoration efforts regarding Lapeer Game Areas. Chapter President Dennis Gepfrey and Chapter Treasurer Mike Dickerson also provided members with a “State of the Chapter” address.
  • 2018 Awards Banquet: Our 35th annual awards program honored our chapter members and was attended by more than 200 persons. This also serves as a chapter general membership meeting.
  • 2017 Christmas Dinner: Was held on December 1, 2017, attended by about 320 members/spouses. This is a combination general membership meeting and celebration of the holidays. 2018 Christmas dinner will be December 7, 2018.

    2018 “Special” Chapter Events

  • 17th Annual Hunters Buck pole: SCI Flint has sponsored a “Buckpole” for 17 consecutive years. Over 25 deer were entered this year on this opening day of the firearm season.
  • 8th Annual Youth Buck pole: This chapter sponsored event was held at Madden’s Lounge, chapter member’s Marty Madden place of business. Over 50 deer total were entered. Major awards were presented along with prizes for each youth hunter participating. This event is believed to be the largest of it’s kind in Michigan.
  • Disabled Veterans Hunt: SCI Flint Donated $1,000 to Tails-A-Wagin’ Fields. The SCI Flint Chapter has co-sponsored this pheasant hunt for veterans with the SCI-SE MI Bow hunters chapter for the past six years.
  • Veterans Turkey Hunt: Two veterans were provided with a full expense paid trip to NE Missouri Outfitters for a 4 day hunt and both harvested turkeys.
  • Conservation: SCI Flint continued our conservation partnership with 3 Pheasants Forever Chapters (Genesee, Lapeer, and St Clair County Chapters) to fund, underwrite for a state grant, and improve habitat at the Lapeer State Game Area.
