Chapter History

Recent Chapter Awards

 

  • SCI Flint was formed in 1981.


  • Our Chapter has grown from a few members to 450+ members.


  • We follow Safari Club International’s Mission Statement and Purpose to as the leader in protecting the right to hunt and in promoting wildlife conservation worldwide.  We do so through education, conservation, and humanitarian efforts.


  • We have received six major awards from SCI including the Top Gun Chapter, The Chapter of the Year, The Diamond Conservation Award, The Program of the Year, The Newsletter of the Year, and the Best Overall Publication Awards.


  • We have five major chapter events each year, including our Awards Banquet, Christmas Party, General Membership Meeting, Outfitter’s Expo, and Wild Game Dinner and Fundraiser.


  • SCI Flint is part of the Michigan Involvement Committee, comprised of all SCI Chapters in Michigan.  The MIC works with Michigan’s DNR Wildlife Division to fund conservation programs.  SCI Flint has donated more than $15,000 to the Michigan Moose Reintroduction Program.


  • SCI Flint has sent more than 50 local teachers to the AWLS (American Wilderness Leadership School) since 1998.  The educators learn about habitat conservation, wildlife management and youth education.


  • SCI Flint is deeply involved with protecting our right to hunt, at home and in other states and countries.  We will be there again when needed.


  • SCI Flint has provided humanitarian assistance to our world community in many ways, including donations to the Hurricane Katrina Sportsmen’s/women’s Relief Fund, Kids in Chemo, and Sportsmen Against Hunger.    Our chapter has collected more than 10,000 pounds of wild game meat for distribution to local food banks for the needy.


  • Chapter members Aaron Harris and Tim Pifher have been honored with Special Hunter Awards recognizing their efforts to overcome physical disabilities to enjoy hunting.
