2016 “Standing” Chapter Events

  • 2016 Outfitters Hunting Expo: Our 14th annual Expo which is open to the public and attended by more than 600 persons held one day prior to our Chapter fundraiser to provide additional exposure of SCI to the general public and to provide additional value to our donating outfitters. We again included educational tools such as an Interactive Shooting System for youth, promoted our SCIF Blue Bag Program, and sold memberships via our membership booth.
  • 2016 Wild Game Dinner and Fundraiser: Our 34th annual fundraiser was the largest in all of SCI, attended by more than 990 people. This event generated the majority of our revenue for the year to fund our programs. Awards were presented to the Legislator of the year – State Senator Mike Shirkey and Media Person of the year Gabe Van Wormer, Producer and Editor of the Michigan Out of Doors television show. This year our Membership Director, Dennis Peters conducted a membership drive with the help of Bill Burton, SCI – Chapter Services Specialist. About 120 new members were signed up during the fundraiser weekend.
  • 2016 General Membership Meeting: General membership meeting for the chapter. A member of Ruffed Grouse Society spoke about the joint conservation project manned by RGS and SCI Flint chapter members. Chapter President Ron Douglas and Chapter Treasurer Tom Dennis also provided members with a “State of the Chapter” address.
  • 2016 Awards Banquet: Our 33rd annual awards program honored our chapter members and was attended by more than 150 persons. This also serves as a chapter general membership meeting.
  • 2015 Christmas Dinner: Was held on December 4, 2015, attended by about 300 members/spouses. This is a combination general membership meeting and celebration of the holidays. 2016 Christmas dinner will be December 2, 2016.

2016 “Special” Chapter Events

  • 16th Annual Hunters Buck pole: SCI Flint has sponsored a “Buckpole” for 16 consecutive years. Over 20 deer were entered this year on this opening day of the firearm season.
  • 6th Annual Youth Buck pole: This chapter sponsored event was held at Madden’s Lounge, chapter member’s Marty Madden place of business. 43 deer total were entered. Major awards were presented along with prizes for each youth hunter participating. This event is believed to be the largest of it’s kind in Michigan.
  • 2nd Annual Golf Outing: Sponsored by Flint Chapter 64 golfers attended this event which was held on June 25, 2016. Proceeds from this are slated for chapter sponsored youth shooting teams.
  • Disabled Veterans Hunt: SCI Flint Donated $1,000 to Tails-A-Wagin’ Fields. The SCI Flint Chapter has co-sponsored this pheasant hunt for veterans with the SCI-SE MI Bowhunters chapter for the past five years.
  • Woods-N-Water Outdoor Show: SCI Flint promoted MI SCI at this show to increase membership and awareness of SCI. This event was held September 9-11, 2016.
  • Conservation: SCI Flint entered into a conservation partnership with 3 Pheasants Forever Chapters (Genesee, Lapeer, and St Clair County Chapters) to fund, underwrite for a state grant, and improve habitat at the Lapeer State Game Area.

2016 Board/Administrative Events

  • Monthly Board Meetings: SCI Flint holds 12 Board Meetings per year, attended by our 15 Board Members and Officers, our Administrative Coordinator, and any guests per that month’s agenda. The meetings are held on the first Monday of each month starting at 6 PM. The meetings last an average of 3 hours.
  • Fund Raiser Planning Meetings: In addition to our normal Board Meetings, the SCI Flint Board meets each Monday evening for 10 consecutive weeks prior to our Annual Wild Game Dinner and Fundraiser. The meetings start at 6 PM and last an average of 2 hours. Our event is guided by an Operations Plan with assignments for more than 150 line-items. The weekly meeting helps us deliver the largest SCI Chapter Fundraiser. The Outdoors Expo sub-committee meets an additional 4 times during the year to plan the “Friday Event”.
  • Sub-Committee Meetings: Each Board Sub-Committee may require several additional meetings per year. These include the Funding Request Committee, Awards Committee, Jim George Scholarship Committee, Education committee, Hunt Donor Committee, and others.
  • SCI Board of Director Meetings: Flint has historically supported these events with the Chapter President or Proxy 100%.
  • MIC Meetings: SCI Flint Board Member Neal Porter attends quarterly meetings of the Michigan Involvement Committee (MIC), a consortium of SCI Michigan Chapters to support Michigan DNRE initiatives that otherwise would not get funded.
  • SCI Flint Trophy Record and Awards Meetings: SCI Flint Trophy Record & Awards Sub-committee headed up by John Kupiec met 4 times during the year to plan for the Awards banquet and to prepare for publishing the next Chapter Trophy Record Book to be completed in 2016.
